Y: PROTEST

20.–21. 1. 2023

Protest as a signal. Mobilisation.

We were looking for a new name for a social event and we found it in the word “protest.” A protest makes those who are (seemingly) powerless or invisible more visible, and it also connects them. A protest enables its participants to establish cooperation and dialogue, and at the same time, it clearly declares a specific interest and therefore creates a safe space for anchoring and self-definition.

Together with nine artists & theoreticians, we are opening the X10 Theatre for 24 hours without a break. A protest enables its participants to establish cooperation and dialogue, and at the same time, it clearly declares a specific interest and therefore creates a safe space for anchoring and self-definition.

During the event, we want to set up our positions instead just swirling the stagnant waters. We don’t give up our responsibilities in co-creating the cultural space. We are dropping out of the product-oriented art mentality and through the protest, we send the following signal: we want to think about who we are as a temporary community of the Y Events, and how we can contribute to the Czech cultural hegemony. These setted positions are rather strong in their relationships and connections, not unconquerable and firm.
