Y:AFTERCARE

What happens when the protest, event or just a day ends? What happens after the doors are closed, when we fall asleep? What happens after we encounter a piece of art; after we experience a performance?

Aftercare is a moment that enables us to process excessive experiences after a formative event. By doing so, it offers a specific time stretch: a moment of reflection, of healing, a moment to clarify any misunderstanding. The Y: Aftercare event emphasises the importance of such time and refocuses us on what happens after. That is why we open the space for two evenings.

Together with eight artists, we’re trying to rewire artistic works and products by focusing on long-term actions, a specific activity or practical labour. We shift our focus from exhibiting finished works to showing individual (artistic, performative) practices. We don't want to just digest art and relax afterwards; we want to fully embrace it in our lives.

After being live, we stretch the time even more: two-days long after-residency is creating a vacuum to breathe, regenerate performers´ tired bodies, cleaning and sorting dirty and chaotic homes and studios after week-long preparations and setups and finally, meeting spectators once again, in less formal environment, without division on who is here to perform and who´s here to be entertained. To close the act, clean the space, calm the mind, care the body.
