Y: Roaaarrrrr / open call

We stand at the centre of tilting axes, trying with all our might to hold the binaries together, because we don’t know what might happen if they come crashing down. Woman/man, nature/culture, war/peace, freedom/totalitarianism, art/technology – all (seemingly) overthrown and refuted a thousand times over, yet still tenaciously holding up the architecture of the everyday. Perhaps the time has come to admit that rationalism is failing and the rule of reason does not exist. So be it! Emotions are what make up our world, not what detracts from it. And art has many keys to unlock the rusty and hidden gates of knowledge.

2024 was a year of emancipatory escapes. In 2025, we want to come back to the world. But what can we do for it? How, from where we stand, can we change reality? What can art do and what tools for shaping reality does it have at its disposal?

We’re emphasising the power of forces that cannot be measured, that evade domestication and are too complex to be included in modernist, rational compendiums of knowledge. We’re dusting off our theatrical equipment and creating worlds full of fairytale chambers, oracles of the future, new rituals and enchanted boxes. We understand each event as a reality simulator, where we can always allow ourselves a bit more leeway than we usually do. A space where words can be bigger, gestures grander, magic more present and emotions more visible. Inside the stories, myths and epics, each of us can encounter another I.

Y Events kicks off the first event of 2025 with an open call. We dream Y: Roaaarrrrr to be an event of screaming, darkness, and the release of repressed emotions. We want to use the forbidden key and open that last chamber we are scared of. And together, let all monsters free.
