“Every ruler needs at least one glorious war to become famous.”
Over one hundred years ago, a new Europe was born. New states which were based on the right of self-determination emerged on the territory of the former Austro-Hungarian Empire. The new dynamics of Central Europe were shaped by several significant events such as the Russian Revolution, the murders of the German politicians and key figures of the November Revolution Karl Liebnknecht and Rosa Luxemburg, and the rise of Nazism, ultimately leading to another world war and a redefinition of spheres of influence. Nowadays, we can ask ourselves: did the 20th century, characterised by world wars and totalitarian regimes, destroy the possibility of a peaceful Europe? How has our perception of war and its atrocities evolved over the past century? Can today's Europe, burdened by its historical traumas, face Russian expansionism or is it politically ineffective due to its own fault? And finally, what’s the difference between the male and female experience of war?
The performance combines the adaptation of the famous novel by Erich Maria Remarque with a contemporary play by the Ukrainian author Natalia Vorozhbyt. The first part describes the life of frontline soldiers in World War I, their experience of trenches, attacks and retreats where lives, ideals and values are lost because of a minor change of the position of the front. The second part focuses on the lives of Ukrainian refugees coming to Central or Western Europe, endlessly standing in all kinds of lines. Hopefully, they’ll obtain hope to start over at the end of the line. The performance delves into the questions of purpose and the origins of war in the early twentieth century, alongside the enduring impact of war crimes in present-day Ukraine. Through the characters, both heroic pathos and basic human needs are brought to the stage. Historical images and contemporary geopolitical dynamics intertwine with their media coverage.

Throughout the performance All Quiet on the Western Front/Green Corridors, a large amount of polystyrene waste is produced. During the preparation of the production, the Theatre X10 began to collaborate with Ecometal, a company specialising in certified polystyrene recycling. The company regularly picks up and recycles the majority of the polystyrene waste.
