LAVIČKA X / The Bench X

In January, together with the OLDstars art group and curator Radka Zahradnikova, we announced an open call for the creation of a bench that will be placed on Havlíčkův Square in Kutná Hora during the Kutná Hora Theatre Festival. The bench will be a resting place with an unmistakable view of St. James Church and Vlašský Dvůr.

The winning design was by ARGUMENTUM studio (Kateřina Goryczka and Oto Melter) – an innovative 3D concrete bench combining modern construction techniques with the aesthetics of natural elements. This unique element in public space provides a place to rest and serves as a planter, integrating nature into the urban environment. The design of the bench draws inspiration from Gothic-style architectural elements, providing a connection to the rich cultural history of the region. Overall, Bench X represents a synergy between modern design, technology, and nature, providing residents with a functional element in the public realm and a link to the cultural and architectural heritage of the region. It is a symbol of a community engaged in the care of public spaces and contributing together to create an attractive and sustainable urban environment.

The unveiling ceremony of LAVIČKA X will take place on 19 September at 16:00 at 85 Havlíčkův Square, next to the Church of St. James. The bench was purchased with the proceeds of the OLDstars on the ROAD fundraising theatre project.
